Looking Back: “We Are… MICHELLE!”

This past spring semester, UAF students and community members lined up outside the Student Recreation Center in anticipation of the SpringFest Concert featuring MICHELLE with opener Jake Chavez. It was an exceptionally warm day, and students were excited to take a break and let loose before finals. Spirits were high by the time Jake Chavez and the Barcelona Boys Choir took the stage. The band got the crowd moving with heartfelt and bold country tunes. The audience was particularly stirred by the inclusion of horn solos which were featured in each song, and garnered spirited applause from the crowd every time.

MICHELLE gave a truly unique performance, visually and sonically, not letting a single particle of positive energy leave the room, giving it their all from their first moments on stage. The collective blended movement and music to create a work of art onstage. Each song featured synchronized dance moves, harmonies, and solos from the performers. What truly stood out about MICHELLE’s performance was the collaboration among the group, and the raw passion that went into every aspect of the show. Each individual song had its own one-of-a-kind sound and feeling, and highlighted different performers. Most importantly, the band looked to be having fun together and their energy was infectious— it was impossible not to have fun along with them.

MICHELLE is an indie pop collective based in New York City, including Sofia D'Angelo, Julian Kaufman, Charlie Kilgore, Layla Ku, Emma Lee, and Jamee Lockard. They played a variety of songs from their discography, including a few brand new tracks, which had their live debut at UAF! A big thanks to these talented groups for making this past SpringFest one to remember!
